x OVID'S RAVEN Statement Necklace - Handcrafted with Copper Lightning Stone in Fine and Sterling Silver

The raven watches the world. The wildness of the creatures and the hubris of humankind. Back and forth from the void it flies, between all the worlds and where everything eventually goes.

This statement necklace/breastplate was completely hand fabricated and handcrafted from Fine and Sterling Silver sheet and wire. It's my most elaborate piece to date, and I couldn't be more delighted with the result.

At the center is a Copper Lightning stone in dark quartz cabochon set in fine silver. Note: the surface of the quartz has natural healed fractures and natural pitting, as this quartz often does. I chose to use this stone because it has that look and quality of being from another time and otherworld. It was cut and cabbed right here at home by my partner and 2nd generation lapidarist, Maxamillion Avila.  I also set two rose cut, shimmering black onyx in toothy bezels at the tips of the wings where they connect to the chain.

This necklace is quite large and much like a shield with a wingspan of 6.5" wide, and the raven's body measuring 2.75" long. Note that I'm 6 ft tall and have angular shoulders, so this necklace will look larger on smaller frames. I love the larger size of this piece, but want to be clear that it's quite the statement.

The chain is also hand fabricated from where it attaches to the raven and up to where it curves around the neck. It's slightly adjustable by hooking the swivel lobster clasp to any of the oval links. I added my favorite soft patterned and textured oval chain to where it drapes around the back of the neck, for added comfort and adjustability. 

The feathers were made one at a time by hand from fine silver and sterling sheet, and then some were pattern textured with my rolling mill, then filed and etched feather details into. There are several layers and are textured and highly detailed.

Just below the center stone setting, I added one 14K Gold bead.

I filed, sanded and polished all edges smooth to the touch, so as to help this piece not snag or scratch the wearer. Care must be taken with this necklace to avoid getting feathers caught on clothing. Meaning avoid wearing knits etc.

The back plates are leaf/father pattern textured with my rolling mill, and stamped with my LUPANYXA makers marks and STERLING. 

This necklace weighs in at a total of 4.2 ounces, and the raven alone is 3.6 ounces of silver before I added the stones.

All Sterling and Fine Silver.

I sealed the darker areas of patina with a finish seal and polished the higher areas of silver with a museum grade wax called Renaissance Wax.. This helps to keep the fine and sterling from oxidizing too quickly.
